From reserve player to established starter

Owen, GAA player coached by PB Performance

Over 14 months, Owen:

  • Reduced bodyweight from 86kg to 80kg
  • Increased his squat from 125kg to 140kg
  • Increased his bench press from 70kg to 95kg
  • Improved chin-ups from 6 to 12
  • Progressed from the reserves to becoming an established starter

"I went from being a reserve player who wasn't getting selected for the senior team to becoming a regular league starter and featuring in the Championship. I also hit a 140kg squat in testing. The levels I reached were unbelievable."

— Owen

Does This Sound Familiar?

You're willing to work. You just want to know the work is moving you forward.

The Core Problem

Hard work will only take you so far

At the start, simply going to the gym and training harder may have helped you improve.

But once you reach a certain level, more work is not always the answer. You need to know what qualities you need to improve, what your team training already covers and how everything fits together across the season.

The problem isn't your work ethic. It's not having a plan you trust.

What Players Say

Results from real athletes

Aimon

Stronger and more powerful on the pitch

"I feel physically stronger on the pitch and more powerful in every aspect. I reached a 100kg bench press and a 150kg squat. The attention to detail and the way the programme was built around my goals were top drawer."

— Aimon

Niamh

A noticeable difference through the tackle

"I noticed a big difference in my strength, especially when taking the ball through a tackle — I can carry it much better. The structured programme took all the guesswork out of the gym, and I could build it around my lifestyle and busy schedule."

— Niamh

Kieran

Progress without carrying fatigue into training

"This is the fastest I have ever progressed in the gym and the highest weights I have hit. The programme pushed me without leaving me fatigued for the next session, and any changes I needed were made quickly."

— Kieran

Fitter, stronger and better prepared

Eamonn

Meaningful progress with limited time

"After a season ravaged by injuries, I wanted to put on size and set myself up properly. I gained around 3kg of muscle and improved my strength massively. The short, simple sessions meant I could still tick every box, even with limited time."

— Eamonn

A clear plan that translated to match performance

"Before joining, I struggled with consistency and wasn't sure if I was training in the most effective way for my goals. Having everything planned out took the guesswork away. I became fitter, stronger and more consistent than I'd ever been, was covering the pitch better and felt far more prepared for matches."

— Ronan

Selected for the senior Championship squad

"I noticed multiple weights going up in the gym and managed to get into the senior Championship squad for the first time. The sessions fitted nicely around my training schedule, and Paddy understands the load that is on GAA players."

— Padraic

The difference a clear plan makes

Stronger, faster and more confident on the pitch

"My back squat went from 45kg to 67.5kg, my bent-over row from 30kg to 57.5kg, and I achieved my first unassisted chin-ups. My 40m sprint improved massively. The work I put in for the season ahead boosted my confidence on the pitch, and I could feel it paying off during team training and games."

— Maria

More work wasn't always better

"I felt faster, stronger and more complete on the pitch, and I got my rewards both individually and with the team. Realising that more wasn't always better was a game changer. Having a coach reassure me that I was on the right path changed how I approached training."

— Dara

Common Questions

FAQs

How does online coaching work?
After your initial assessment, your programme is delivered through the coaching app with exercise demonstrations and progress tracking. You complete a weekly check-in, receive adjustments and can contact Paddy directly when you need support.
How many sessions will I complete?
That depends on your team schedule, goals and stage of the season. Your plan is built around the time you realistically have. More sessions are not automatically better.
Will the gym work leave me tired for matches?
Your programme is planned around team training and fixtures. Volume and intensity are managed so that your gym work supports rather than competes with your performance on the pitch.
How long does coaching last?
Meaningful physical development takes time. Coaching begins with an initial 90-day commitment, after which we review the next phase around your goals and season.
Is this only for intercounty players?
No. The coaching is for ambitious GAA players from club level through to intercounty. Your current level matters less than your willingness to work, communicate and improve.
What happens after I apply?
Paddy will review your application personally and contact you to arrange a conversation. You'll discuss where you are now, what you want to improve and whether the coaching is the right fit for you.
